There are many different definitions

of what a RARE breed is.

1. To someone trying to find a particular dog they saw and having a very hard time finding it, well, they may consider that breed to be rare. A rare breed is hard to find.

2.  A 'Rare Breed' tagged as such in a large Registration Organization is only called that because it is a new breed inside that particular Registering Organization

To qualify as RARE with-in that organization, there must be:

A.   A required amount of dog breed owners;

B.   A 'breed' club that supports the breed and registered dogs on the books kept by the club.

C.   There must also be a 'BREED STANDARD' that defines, outlines, and specifies (statistically) what the dog looks like and acts like.

(There are some registering organizations that only require three recorded generations plus a 'BREED STANDARD)

Large Registration Organizations have recently started registering many new and so called "rare breeds" to increase their base and generate more income.

In the beginning of creating new breeds, the founders usually set up their own registration books

As Owners multiply a 'Breed Club' comes together.

Soon folks start talking about becoming "RECOGNIZED" because they feel that if they are not registered with one of the large Registration Organizations that the average citizen will say they are not really a true breed.

   This is not true.

If you are a 'breed' you BE-GET consistently and each and every pup that is born conforms to the breed standards.

No registration organization will make you any more or less a breed.

Breeds were breeds without the large breed registration organizations registering their dogs many, many years ago.

Back then the breed club was in charge, held meetings and kept the books. The breed club was the back bone of the breed and it was up to them to make sure that their breed was properly bred. Everyone knew each other. Everyone knew their dogs. Judges were chosen out of their own members. The breed club would never think of having a outsider judge their dogs. Nor would they consider having a particular 'hound judge' or 'herding dog judge' judge their breed of dog.  Who better to judge their dogs, but they themselves?

That is the way it was done for centuries until groups of Breed Clubs got together and decided to put on gatherings or Bench Shows thus forming the American Kennel Club (AKC). This started with the higher up folks with their noses in the air. People that thought that BEAUTY was the way to go.

Soon other Kennel Clubs were born who did not wish to participate in the 'show' of Breeds. Their main interest was not in the LOOKS of the dog but what a dog could do, how he preformed his job. So they began registering dogs that would be judged on their ability to do the job they were bred for.  Thus the United Kennel Club (UKC) was born.

Since then many other clubs have surfaced that would cater to individual Breed clubs who felt that the other Registration Organizations really didn't do their breed justice.

Who thinks up these organizations?

Entrepreneurs who can see making MILLIONS of dollars registering MILLIONS of dogs...  What the heck good are they?   Can anyone give me any proof that a large registration organization is working for the individual breeds?  NONE... Want to know why no one can?   Cause there is NONE...  Just a bigger mess of things, Just like Big Government!
